Kremlin's Surprise Shakeup
Russian President Boris Yeltsin yesterday dismissed his Prime Minister and reinstalled Viktor Chernomyrdin, not even five months after dismissing the older statesman personally and politically, and installing the young Kiriyenko with great fanfare.

U.S. Bombings of Afghanistan and Sudan
An unexploded U.S. missile reportedly has been found in western Pakistan, but Pakistani officials would not comment today after a similar report last week was later denied. Local officials said the missile was found in a remote area Sunday and handed over to the military the same day, four days after U.S. missiles struck an alleged training camp in neighboring Afghanistan. They said the missile fell in Kharan, 380 miles south of the U.S. target in Afghanistan.

Poverty Report
Maybe it was the Asian financial crisis that caused the Dow to see-saw by hundreds of points in the last two weeks, or slower corporate earnings, or news about President Clinton’s predicament. Or maybe, just maybe, it was the fundamentals of the current U.S. and global economies, which a growing number of economists say are appalling. While the richest among us consolidate wealth, the middle class is slipping, and the poor are worse off than ever. Income disparity between rich and poor Americans is now more extreme than at anytime since 1929.

The Murmurs
You’re listening to—La Di Da—from a new CD called Blender. It’s the latest release from the band The Murmurs.
